CREATIVE JOURNAL EVENINGS
SUMMER 2007
date and location to be announced
6:30 - 9:30 p.m.
Parrsboro, Nova Scotia
Wine and cheese served
Total cost: $45

Participants may choose to do only one of the evenings, but if you’re only doing evening two, please bring a blank journal to the workshop.

Evening one: Making a Creative Journal
In this class Krista Wells will guide you through determining the physical requirements for creating a blank journal that is just right for you. The ultimate use of your journal will affect the design. Do you collect things? It will need pockets. Do you use a lot of watercolour? It will need appropriate paper. Do you do a lot of writing? It will need smooth paper. Choosing materials for covers and pages, designing and binding will all be covered in this evening of relaxed creation, sipping of wine and nibbling of cheese. By the time the wine bottles are empty each participant should have a completed (or near completed) personal journal that reflects his or her personal style and interests.

Evening two: Expressing yourself in a personal journal
Whether you want to keep an Everyday Journal, a Travel Journal, a Dream Journal, a Gardener’s Journal, a Sketchbook, a Poetry Journal or any combination of these and more, this evening’s class will introduce you to a wide variety of techniques to stimulate your inner artist or writer. You’ll be encouraged to develop your own style to keep a journal that is both fun to work in and a pleasure to flip through long afterwards. Techniques will include both visual and text based exercises sure to cure anyone with sketcher’s or writer’s block. Participants are asked to bring any art materials they like to work with and a sense of humour and adventure. If you didn’t participate in Evening one: Making a Creative Journal, please bring a blank journal.

Creativity Workshop
August, 2005
Destination Gallery
Parrsboro, Nova Scotia
This workshop was a lot of fun. It was designed to get the creative juices flowing, and flow they did! We had just about every square inch of the workshop space covered in bits of cut up magazines, drips of glue, splashes of paint, covers from antique law books, wire, feathers, beads... it was like kindergarten for adults.

This is an example of the sorts of things that we created at the workshop. It's one of the pages in participant Don Reider's art journal.
